After successful completion of the Adventures in Space training
course, participants may be offered a place within a working ensemble,
to explore the theatrical possibilities of a theme or preparatory
ideas for a production. This will be a period of experimentation,
research, creativity and play. The development of a distinct theatrical
language and discovery of original conventions will be encouraged
and nurtured. Throughout this project actors will be given the opportunity
to apply practically the devising and performance skills explored
on the training course.
Example of Stage 2
In January 2005 a group of 12 performers who had all previously completed
Stage 1, were invited to take part
in a project exploring Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST. The group met twice
weekly for 6 weeks and worked on ideas which lay outside of the text;
creating a prequel to the play, inventing ways of creating stage magic,
experimenting with theatrical conventions. This project became preparatory
work for Pants on Fire's production of TOSSED!, and 8 participants
of this project were invited to join the cast.
