A week-long residential course at the Arjac Arts and Cultural Centre
in the Aveyron region of South West France

Led by Peter Bramley, Artistic Director of Pants on Fire, and drawing from the teachings of Jacques Lecoq, this intensive week-long residential workshop will explore creative ideas and storytelling techniques for solo performance.

Whether you are looking for inspiration to make your own work in the future, seeking an opportunity to further develop existing creative ideas, or simply want to explore Lecoq-based approaches and gain new performance skills, this storytelling workshop will open up a world of possibilities and fuel your creativity.

Jacques Lecoq believed that for an actor in an empty space, anything and everything is possible. This training will widen your perception of the endless possibilities of solo performance and storytelling and inspire ideas for creating and exporing new work.

At the end of this course, participants will have

The confidence to create and perform your own material

A ‘tool kit’ of skills and techniques for creating, staging and performing your own solo theatre work

The ability to create vivid theatrical worlds without the need for set, costume or even other actors

An entrepreneurial outlook at creating your own work, vital in a climate where opportunities for actors are increasingly scarce

Tucked away in the idylic rural setting of Arjac in South West France, this fully immersive, residential experience offers full creative focus far from the distractions of busy city life and an opportunity to meet, play, work and enjoy the company of like-minded creative people.

You will consider the use of space and scale, allowing you to create theatrical 'worlds'. You will discover how one person can embody multiple characters which interact with each other with vivid precision. And you will explore how to create imagery through mime, prop manipulation and the body. You will also develop an understanding of the need to invest in the telling of a story in order to draw an audience into the world you have created and to make them care.

This training is practical, observational and largely physical so please bring clothes that you can comfortably move in. And most of all, bring an open mind and be prepared to play!
